I was a stay-at-home mother to my three beautiful children and my husband had a high-powered career. My days were about taking care of everyone else, and I was consistently the last priority on my long list. Then, when I was about 33 years old, I experienced a bout of depression. I remember sitting in my room, sobbing in sadness. I cried out to God, “This can’t be what you have in mind for me. There’s got to be more.” In that moment God spoke to me clearly, “No, this is not what I have in mind for you. Your current feelings are what you have in mind for yourself. Whatever you think about is what you will bring about in life.”
From then on, I decided to use my power. I began journaling about my dreams and visions. I collected old magazines and cut out pictures and words to create my first vision board. I put my vision board in my bedroom so I could see it every day. I wrote positive affirmations on sticky notes, put them on my mirror, and recited them every time I walked by. I declared victory over my depression. I claimed great success for my children, my husband and myself. After God spoke to me that day in my room, something in me changed forever. I began operating from an empowered place as opposed to a defeated mindset.
I had no idea that by using my power I could change the trajectory of my life. For example, I had Black Enterprise magazine on my first vision board—I wanted to be a featured entrepreneur. I once had attended an event but felt like I didn’t fit in. I wasn’t a president or CEO of a successful company; I was a stay-at-home mother and wife. I wanted so much more for myself, but I had no idea how I would achieve it. After the event that night, I made a promise to myself that I would one day return as a successful entrepreneur and not just an attendee. Twelve years later, that vision came to pass.
In recent years, I have felt a deep calling to work with other powerful women to uplift and inspire fellow female entrepreneurs. I put these things on my vision board. Fast forward—I was recently selected to sit on a panel with Michelle Obama, and I am also currently working on a project with Tabitha Brown. Some things take longer to manifest than others, but my visions come to pass because I have the audacity to believe in my God-given power to dream big, to believe big and to manifest big.
If you are reading this right now and feel anything less than capable and worthy, it is time for you to rise and walk in your greatness. You have the power to dream it, to believe it, and to manifest it. You can activate that power by speaking and claiming the things that you want in your life. If you focus on the things that you don’t want to happen, you will manifest those things. If you focus on the things you do want to happen, those are the things that will come to pass for you. Therein lies the secret to manifesting the life of your dreams.
There is nothing that you cannot achieve. God has given you the greatest tool, your mind. We are always manifesting, whether we are aware of it or not. Now that you are reading this, you have been made aware. So manifest with intentionality. Be deliberate with your thoughts, your words, and your actions. Speak victory over the things that trouble you. Speak success over your business, your career, your finances and over every person in your family. It starts with you.
I encourage you to find a quiet place and take time to journal about what you want your life to look and feel like every day. Write a goal or manifestation to focus on and revisit it every time that you journal. What you will realize is that you are wiring your brain to run after the thing that you are seeking to achieve. Whatever you feed your mind is what will flourish. By focusing on your goals, you are planting seeds in your subconscious that will continue to grow. Over time, your actions, thoughts, and words will consistently align with your goals. Before you know it, you will be checking boxes on your vision board.
I can’t wait for you to see your greatness. I can’t wait for you to walk in your power. I can’t wait to celebrate your accomplishments with you. The sky is truly the limit.
