As I pulled up to Georgia Freight Depot and saw our vendors offloading, my heart started racing. One, from the adrenaline of this being our first event; and two, knowing that what was in front of me would be spectacular for everyone. I’ve planned and attended many women empowerment events, but nothing like this! As we were making the final touches to the event space, a line began to form—women who had traveled from near and far for this moment, and you could feel the anticipation for what was about to place over the next several hours. Sis, it did not disappoint! So, without further ado, here are my top five takeaways from Mahogany Moment…
1–The Energy: When I walked through the doors of the Mahogany Moment event, I was overtaken by an electrifying energy that seemed to permeate the room. It was PURE JOY! The atmosphere buzzed with positivity, enthusiasm, and a shared purpose. The passion and determination that filled the space were infectious, igniting a fire within me to strive for greatness in every aspect of my life.
2–The Sisterhood: The sense of sisterhood I experienced at Mahogany Moment was unlike anything I have ever encountered. Women from all walks of life came together, and it was as though we were all long-lost friends reuniting after years apart. Some women I’d been emailing for over a year, and we finally met face to face. Others came to hear from Tabitha Brown (their internet auntie), Egypt Sherrod, and many other profound women. Each sister offered a message of unwavering support, understanding, and encouragement. The connections I made that day were the most genuine and heartfelt encounters I have felt in years.
3–The Speakers: The Mahogany Moment brought together a remarkable lineup of speakers who shared their experiences, wisdom, and stories of triumph. I was in awe of their inspiring journeys, stellar achievements, and dynamic resilience. Each speaker’s words resonated deeply and left me feeling empowered and motivated to confidently pursue my dreams.
4–The Dance Breaks: The dance breaks were one of the most enjoyable and unexpected elements of the event. Our gorgeous and charismatic host for the day was none other than Christina Granville, aka “Ms. Basketball.” She was super funny and made sure we all had a good time. The DJ kept the hits coming throughout the day, and the ladies let loose (you know we had to do the Tamia dance challenge). It was a celebration of life, a moment of pure joy, and a reminder that it’s okay to let go, have fun, and embrace the happiness that comes from simply being yourself and being surrounded by your sisters.
5–The Support: At Mahogany Moment, the outpouring of support was overwhelming. Whether it was a standing ovation for a speaker who had just shared about her journey or a heartfelt “Amen, Sis!” shared with a fellow attendee, I felt comforted in an unshakable net of encouragement and positivity. It reinforced that we are not alone on our journeys, and the support of other women is a powerful force that can propel us toward our goals.
Mahogany Moment was a day I will never forget. It left me with a renewed sense of purpose and a stronger bond with my sisters, whether that was a new sister or a friend I’ve known for years. It was a reminder that, together, we can achieve greatness, uplift each other, and make every moment count.

It would be quite difficult to share ONE moment that I’d deem as my favorite from the event. Listening to the journeys of each of the speakers has given me the motivation to press through any obstacle I may face. Their testimonies helped me to believe that with God my purpose can and will be fulfilled. I’m grateful to have been in the building!

There were so many great “moments” but I would say it was the energized sisterhood. That energy is still pulsating in me weeks later. I was covered, encouraged, engaged and seen in such a loving way that unfortunately is not offered in a lot of spaces. I can not wait until Part 2!

Honestly, this definitely is amongst the top things I did in 2023. I came by myself to have my cup filled. The event exceeded my expectations. I’m hoping for at least two days in 2024 🙂 I’ll be a volunteer if you need more hands to make sure it happens!

Hi Cherice, thank you for this feedback. I think so many women came for the same reason, even some flew same day (mind blown and a blessing for them). So glad you had this experience and hopefully you were able to connect with some of the women while you were there. This was a whole vibe! Make sure you’re subscribed to Mahogany.com for these updates 🙂
