  1. Great story that most little black girls raised in a God fearing home can relate to. I just finished reading my devotional that speaks to the commandment of loving others just as you love yourself, and know that we truly have to love ourself, give ourself a break in order to love others. I wish I understood God being within me back then but so grateful I know now. Thank you for sharing!

  2. Beautiful, thank you for sharing your story . You have given me a lot to think about in my own life, and I too will correct some things so please keep writing and sharing well done!

  3. I enjoyed this story and love how you loved your daughter enough to not allow her to spend years recovering from something that could have stagnated her life forever.

  4. Thank you for this loud, but soft reminder to connect with that little girl in me that was crushed when told something similar.

May you continue to share and help others who’s voice has been taken away, or still very scared to use it💜

  5. I wish I had seen this fifty years ago!! My life, my choices and my raising of my own daughter would have been vastly different and undoubtedly much richer. The deeper meaning of “Love your neighbor as yourself” as “the Greatest Commandment “ is not stressed enough in Christian upbringing.

  6. Thank you for sharing, it really blessed me. I find myself sometimes being so extreme trying to help, but actually hurting myself and others.

    Thanks you!
It’s a daily practice to learn to accept ourselves on a deeper level. It’s nice to know I’m not alone. I have two strong daughters and they tell me how proud they are of me.
Keep up the awesome self worth work.
    God bless you

  8. This is very enlightening and empowering I can recall on many occasions doing the same thing with my children. We try hard to give the message of Christ love and because of the delivery it’s misinterpreted. Well said and message received.

  9. This is an amazing blog post. Very Empowering…Yes, it is important to learn to love ourselves as the Lord loves us. We have to toot our own horns and be able to receive compliments of others. We can do so and remain humbled at the same time. I look forward to more of your post.

  10. This hit very close to home especially of putting God first and the many ways I’ve muted myself. I’m still working on loving myself and allowing myself to shine.

  11. Not only was this beautiful butI feel proud and appreciative of you for sharing and overcoming your fears with an amazing message.
