My mantra for 2023 is: Purpose, Alignment, Gratitude and Miracles. When I tell you that I’m claiming every bit of each of those words, I mean it.
If you know my story, then you know that nothing has quite gone according to plan. My Type A, Virgo personality tries its hardest to set an agenda and stick to it, but God has other ideas. So, about 2 years ago I stopped trying to fight the inevitable. I gave into God and whatever was in store for me. While I never completely rid myself of a plan (we all need a framework), I did let things take their course. Even when things didn’t go according to plan, everything still worked out.
I moved to LA at 18 to pursue acting. I met some amazing people. I lived independent from my family for 7 years. I met the love of my life. Then my dad died, and I knew that moving back to Austin (as much as I didn’t want to) was the right thing to do. Coming back to Texas was the best thing that could’ve happened. I got my financial life together and started my financial coaching company City Girl Savings.
I was working a great job in corporate while building my business. About 3 years in, I decided that running it full-time was my goal. I dealt with fear, imposter syndrome, lack of confidence, and I worked through those things for the next 3 years. Would I have wanted to take my business full-time sooner? Yes. Was I constantly questioning if this was right? Absolutely. But I stayed the course. And wouldn’t you know it? God made it clear when I should take the leap.
About a year and a half into my full-time business life, I got an offer for a temporary consulting role from a major bank. My experience in corporate made this possible. The offer was for 3 months and at nearly 3x more than I had made in the past. Had I never left corporate, an opportunity like this would’ve never come my way. Had I stayed in my comfort zone, I would have never known the income earning potential I was capable of.
Now, at the start of 2023, I’m back to working on my business full-time. When I tell you I’ve never felt more in my purpose, I mean it. When I tell you things have never felt this aligned, I believe it. When I tell you that I wake up each day with gratitude, I stand by it. When I tell you that I feel the miracles making their way to me, I see it.
I could go on and on, through all the examples of how things didn’t work out the way I planned or how I wanted them to, but it all led me somewhere great. Somewhere I didn’t know I needed to be until I got there.
What a blessing to be able to trust God, trust the Universe, and trust yourself to know that things will always work out. They may not (and most likely won’t) go according to plan, but they will work out. Take a moment to think back on your life. When and where did things not go the way you planned them to, but God came through? Sit and appreciate everything that has led you to where you are today. It’s worth your attention and appreciation.

Good Morning from Texas
I enjoyed reading your story and it has helped me in so many ways. I returned to school after raising my three children with my husband. Although, he loves me he has not been the most supportive of me returning to school. Since, returning to school I have maintained a 4.0 GPA and have been inducted into three Honor Societies all with minimal support from my husband but with the full support of our children. I am 55 years young and striving for me dreams and one of them being graduating with my college degree in General Psychology. I love all thing Tyler Perry and his movie and in his movie “The Family That Preys” the question was asked “are you existing or are you living” I have chosen to LIVE MY BEST LIFE. Every day I tell my self “you got this and no one will steal your joy”.
