What was your inspiration for starting this brand?
We started this brand to make it easier for families to celebrate special moments and milestones in life. Our products take the stress and DIY out of ensuring your guests have a good time.
What do you hope women will feel/experience when they use Côtier products?
We hope that women feel like they can effortlessly facilitate unforgettable moments with their friends and loved ones. We believe that time with loved ones should never be taken for granted, no matter how small.
How does it feel to receive support and encouragement from our community?
It feels amazing. Whenever you’re the first to take an innovative risk with your product creations, you can only hope and pray that your risk pays off and your contribution is well received. Every positive review or word of encouragement from our community confirms that we are on the right path and are never taken for granted.
Who in your life encourages and empowers you the most?
I would have to say, my husband. He encouraged me from the beginning of this journey and still does today. He has stood confidently by me through all the storms of business, including a global pandemic! I’m forever grateful for his love and support.
What advice would you give to a sister who wants to start her own business?
Get started now! We often wait for a sign, the right moment, or someone to help us. The best thing you can do is get started with your best step forward. You’ll be surprised how help and other necessities will come your way once you’ve started building. My other advice is to remember that, ultimately, business is service. Put products out that people are willing to buy and find a way to continue to serve them. Once you get started this way, you can stay in business without much difficulty.
Here at Mahogany, we’re motivated by purpose, faith, and community to celebrate Blackness 24/7. How do you celebrate yours?
We celebrate our Blackness 24/7 by bringing our perspective into the gathering, home entertainment, and gift market. Black influence is everywhere, and we are proud to say that we are still inventing and innovating even in markets where we are not always recognized. Now, people who explore this niche can see Black innovation and perspective included as well.
Anything else you want readers to know about you and your business?
A portion of our proceeds go to the Good Success Foundation, which champions education, clean water, and economic empowerment in various parts of the world. We focus on providing opportunities in countries where our Black brothers and sisters need it most, such as Haiti. Right now, our contributions help run a grammar school and an orphanage. Teachers are paid, and kids are eating daily as our products continue to sell.
