What was your inspiration for starting Abeille Creations?
When I founded Abeille Creations in 2014, I saw a significant need for a brand that addressed mental health, technology, fashion & art. This seemed like an unlikely amalgamation of areas of interest, but with each new collection, collaboration, and partnership, I am able to pour into my community in a unique way.
In 2019, I reinvented my wearable art apparel and titled it, A Better Life (ABL). I found a unique way to: 1) educate consumers about the significance of Black art, 2) use technology in unique ways, and 3) instill a new sense of confidence in consumers—all while pushing people to become their best selves. As a CEO, my purpose is to create art that stirs the soul. The colors draw people in, but the underlying messaging is what urges people to follow their own dreams.
What do you hope Black women will experience when they wear or use ABL?
I hope that Black women using Abeille (ABL) products feel a profound sense of empowerment, self-expression, and connection to their heritage. Through the unique blend of art, fashion, and technology, ABL aims to inspire confidence and encourage individuals to embrace their dreams and individuality.
How does it feel to receive support and encouragement from our community?
The support and encouragement from our community is incredibly fulfilling. Knowing that ABL resonates with individuals, fosters a sense of pride, and contributes positively to mental health and self-esteem is truly rewarding. It strengthens my commitment to creating meaningful, culturally rich experiences through our wearable art.
Who in your life encourages and empowers you the most?
When I think of how I keep going, it is hard to say ONE thing or one person. I feel like my greatest encouragement comes from the diverse and vibrant community that surrounds me and the brand. The artists, collaborators, and customers who engage with ABL inspire me daily. Additionally, the unwavering support from my close-knit network of family and friends provides the emotional foundation needed to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship. When it gets tough, I remember why I started and those who aren’t here to see their dreams fulfilled.
What advice would you give to a sister who wants to start her own business?
I always say it’s easier to show someone the way than to merely tell them HOW. I make it my business to be as transparent as possible with fellow and aspiring entrepreneurs. My greatest advice would be to embrace your unique voice and perspective, leverage your strengths, understand your own personal story, and build a supportive network. Each entrepreneur should understand that the journey will have challenges, but with resilience, passion, and a commitment to your vision, you can create a business that not only thrives but also makes a meaningful impact.
Here at Mahogany, we’re motivated by purpose, faith, and community, to celebrate Blackness 24/7. How do you celebrate yours?
When I first picked up a brush, my intention was to add to a rich legacy while creating my own. Black excellence is merely knowing your truth and making sure the world does too. I celebrate Blackness through ABL by infusing each design with the richness of Black art, culture, and history. My art serves as a constant celebration of the beauty, resilience, and diversity within the Black community. Beyond that, my involvement in community pop-ups, mentorship, and speaking engagements is a continuous celebration of the shared experiences that bind us together.
Anything else you want readers to know about you and your business?
More than anything, I want people to remember Abeille Creations as more than a brand. I have created something that is a movement which fuses creativity, technology, and fashion to elevate mental health awareness and self-empowerment. As a CEO deeply rooted in both IT expertise and with decades of marketing practice, I bring a unique perspective to the wearable art market.
ABL is not just about clothing; it’s a storytelling experience, a catalyst for meaningful conversations, and a platform that encourages individuals to embrace their own narratives and aspirations. I want people to walk away knowing that anything is possible if they believe and truly do the work. Abeille Creations is a direct result of relentless faith, hard work, and fearless dreaming.
