What was your inspiration for starting this brand?
Has this ever happened to you? You’re out shopping, trying to find art that represents or looks like you, and then you realize that there is not much diversity when it comes to artwork in stores. This happens all the time to women and men of color. Stores are missing a place where Black art is showcased year-round. The mission is to change the industry—to have more art and decor for women and men of color.Every corner of your home and life should be a reflection of you. DomoINK offers you the opportunity to amplify [your space] with unique products and art that speaks to you.
What do you hope Black women will feel when they use DomoINK?
I want Black women to feel joy when they see my art. I create these art pieces to celebrate inclusivity while empowering men and women of color.
How does it feel to receive support and encouragement from our community?
It is a feeling that never gets old. I always appreciate when I receive support and encouragement from the community. I absolutely love receiving photos and videos from those enjoying items from DomoINK in their home or something as simple as a nice message from someone about how meaningful it is to have art that represents them.
Who in your life encourages and empowers you the most?
It is not just one person who encourages and empowers me. It definitely takes a village in my life. My family and friends are my cheerleaders as I journey on as a business owner and artist.
What advice would you give to a sister who wants to start her own business?
Don’t be afraid to promote your business. It is fine to “toot your own horn.”
Here at Mahogany, we’re motivated by purpose, faith, and community, to celebrate Blackness 24/7. How do you celebrate yours?
I celebrate my purpose by always living in the moment. It is a blessing to have the opportunity to live in your truth. I am happy to be able to create artwork that brings joy and empowerment to so many people around the world. I thank God every day that I am able to have this continuously growing space as an artist where I can work with so many people to bring diversity and inclusivity through my art.
I appreciate the community that has been growing around me. Before I started sharing my art with the world, it was just family and friends who knew about what I was creating. Now, people I never met before show me love. I am absolutely grateful for the support I am receiving, and I will continue to push to have more art and decor for women and men of color.
