With March being Women’s History Month, I could not think of a better time to honor and celebrate some of the women who have positively impacted my life. My business dealings are primarily with and about women, so this subject is near and dear to my heart. When I think about what it means to be a phenomenal woman, I think about a woman who uses her gifts, talents, and resources to uplift and inspire. I think about a woman who opens doors for others. I think about a woman who is passionate about service—someone who is relational as opposed to transactional. I think about women who make a difference.
When I think about what it means to be a phenomenal woman, I think about Cynt Marshall who overcame a tumultuous and abusive childhood and became the first Black female CEO in NBA history in 2018. Cynt and I happened to be at many of the same events before we were introduced. When I got the opportunity to talk to her and learn about her story, I was truly inspired. Cynt uses her resources to create opportunities for others. Watching her has taught me the power of overcoming adversity. Her generosity, authenticity, and perseverance—her service in action—make her the epitome of a phenomenal woman.
When I think about what it means to be a phenomenal woman, I think about Kimberly Bizor-Tolbert, the Deputy City Manager for the city of Dallas, Texas. Kimberly and I met at a women’s empowerment event and struck up a conversation after admiring each other’s hair. (Queens see queens…right sis?!) Since I met Kim, I have witnessed her provide so much support to other women in business. Kim’s unwavering support is one of the many things that I admire and appreciate about her. It is one of the many things that make her a phenomenal woman.
When I think about what it means to be a phenomenal woman, I think about Alexandria Barlowe who has been my writing coach for nearly seven years now. Alex has helped me deliver multiple best-selling books. When I am unsure of what direction to go with a project, she encourages me and provides me with insightful guidance. Alex pushes me to find heartfelt ways to convey my message to my readers. She encourages me to write with intention and authenticity. Her impact on my projects has been nothing short of phenomenal.
When I think about what it means to be a phenomenal woman, I think about Patricia Bailey, the owner and founder of She Ages Well, a skincare solution for dry and aging skin. Patricia is also an Alzheimer’s Caregiving Consultant who provides solutions to families of Alzheimer’s patients. I was introduced to Pat through the Creative Director of Cheryl Magazine. Pat and I bonded over our loss of a loved one to Alzheimer’s disease; she lost her mother, and I lost my grandmother. After learning about the loss of my grandmother, Pat encouraged me to take part in the Health & Aging Brain Study (formerly known as the Black Alzheimer’s Brain Study). Taking part in this study provided me with life-saving information about my personal health. Pat’s work and research are helping to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease which is undoubtedly phenomenal.
Each of these women have provided love, sisterhood, and support to keep me going when I needed it most, and my relationships with them have advanced my business and my brand. They supported my non-profit organization, my books, my events, and my personal wellbeing. They check on me and my family. They have opened doors for me and created opportunities that I didn’t even know were possible. That’s the power of phenomenal women supporting and uplifting each other.
I have been blessed to meet and work with so many phenomenal women—the ones I mentioned here are just a few. Who are the phenomenal women in your life? Take this opportunity to give them their flowers. And be sure to give yourself some flowers while you are at it, Sis. You are also a woman… phenomenally. Continue to be!

Thanks for the reminder to think about phenomenal women in my life now and those that have gone on to be with the Lord! My Mother was and still is a phenomenal women in my life. I see her everyday in me and my children. She instilled in us the importance of education because she did not really have the opportunity to go to because she decided to serve others, her siblings, when her Mother passed away when she was 18 years old. She is my hero and I just want to say, “Mom, thanks for teaching me how to be a help to others in need”. Much love ❤️ and big 🤗.
Danette Brown says
Dr. Cheryl this was a phenomenal message on serving, sisterhood, and loving on each other in love. I love the word transactional.
Candice "Ordered Steps" Johnson says
When I think of phenomenal women, I think of national, best-selling author Jacquelin Thomas. She insisted I call her Jackie from the onset, and took me under her literary wings, but most importantly…welcomed me into her heart. My approach with my pen shifted because of Jackie, and my trust in women being there for each other soared!!!
Danette Brown says
Dr. Cheryl this was a phenomenal message on serving, sisterhood, and loving on each other in love. I love the word transactional. ❤️

Never misses an opportunity to shine a light on others. This is a beautiful read. You my dear have truly been a blessing in my life and even though I’m older, I love learning from watching you. Thank you for teaching us how to live life to the fullest and in obedience. Love ALWAYS!
Pamela Nance Johnson says
Dr. Cheryl I knew you were a phenomenal woman when I first heard you speak at the Christian Book Lover’s Retreat a few years ago. My key takeaway was that you stressed the word “unapologetically”. It took being authentic to another level. Giving myself permission to Just Be Me are my flowers. Since that CBLR session, I’ve co-authored in 3 anthologies, started blogging, speaking on podcasts and written an article for a international ministry magazine. God gets all the glory. I give flowers to my 6 paternal aunts who all supported me after my mother passed when I was just 16 years old. I give flowers to the women God has placed in my life to call Sisters because I don’t have biological sisters. Also the Church Mothers who prayed and shared wisdom. I believe we’re all phenomenal women in our own way. Thank you for the inspiration.
Rachel Mathews says

What a beautiful writing, as always you inspire me to be GREAT, to do better today than I did on yesterday. It is my sincere prayer I meet these amazing ladies one day through you because I’m already experiencing complete joy as a result of meeting you through Tanya Turner. It was my willingness to always meet someone knew that allowed me to me her, you and so many other amazing ladies. I pray this story encourages others to open up and allow fresh light, love and laughter to overtake them each day through new beautiful connections. I am because you are PHENOMENAL, Cheryl P Williamson.

Thank you for sharing such a powerful message. For me, this article provides more than recognition of the accomplishments and contributions of other powerful women in the NOW. It reminds me that tomorrow is not promised and that I too need to seek and be great today. And, that I need to pour into any and all important people in my life as much as possible as often as I’m capable.
As always Cheryl, you keep those that follow you thinking, feeling and doing the work to better ourselves.

This such a beautiful tribute. My mother passed away 10 years ago before I was able to give her the flowers she deserved. But God in His infinite mercy has allowed me to do it through the work I do with other women that I serve through my groups.
Dr. Renèe Escoffery-Torres says
Let me take this opportunity to give you your flowers, my sister! Because so much of what is sustaining me right now, is being able to connect and communicate with you. Flowers also go to my childhood friend, Avis Bent, who traveled a distance just to check on me, to see if I was OK after my father’s death and the ensuing chaos. Happy to say our friendship has been sustained for over58 years. As Maya Angelou says, “I don’t shout, or jump about, or have to talk real loud… When you see me coming, it out to make you proud.” And it does make me so proud, my sister. . So I want to thank you, for all that you do!
Dr. Michelle says

You have always walked the talk! You have poured into so many women that only the Lord knows what could have happened to them or where they would have ended up had they not met you. You have opened my eyes to see myself, and now putting into perspective what you would say to me… “I see you!” Keep shining God’s light and follow his plan. Thank you for being you!
