Growing up, I didn’t have a lot of Black characters to look up to. There were a beloved handful, sure, but the most prominent princesses, pirates, and superheroes didn’t look like me. Now in my 20s, I’m seeing more and more Black characters take centerstage in the media and it’s honestly so amazing and encouraging, especially when I consider just how impactful this is for younger generations. While I’ve come to know and love some new Black characters over time, none have impacted me more than King T’Challa and Princess Shuri from Marvel Studios Black Panther.

Of course these super characters have existed since before I was born, but they weren’t represented in the blockbuster mainstream until 2018 when the first Black Panther movie came out, dazzled us all, and became a major cultural moment. Now Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever, is finally here! (High-key, November 11 was a holiday for me.) Fresh off the movie and with Christmastime right around the corner, it’s a no-brainer to me to keep the celebration going and make this Christmas Wakandan with Hallmark’s one-of-a-kind Black Panther ornaments!
