  1. This!!!!! This was more than words, this was soul food, sis. You didn’t just write a piece, you opened a portal back to joy. I felt every line. Aṣé to the glow up!

  2. Nothing screaaaaaams summer like the ice creaaaam truck and sounds from kid placing bottles on their back tires turning our huffies into Harley’s 💙💙

    • Listen, this is a childhood staple of a kids summertime excursions. Getting your parent to give you that dollar to get your favorite ice cream. 🥺🥳

  3. This brings back moments where we would all get together at my gma and gpa house, and it was supposed to be a stop by. Mannn! It turned into a whole 10 hour show. Leaving at 1am because they have played all the cards they could, and ain’t no more hide and seek left. Miss those days.

  4. The voice feels intimate and warm, like a conversation on that front porch you described inviting the reader into your world. &
Your message of self-acceptance and joy is powerful and affirming, especially in its celebration of Black womanhood.

  5. After a cancer diagnosis, surgery and three years of treatments, I purposely took a break from chemo, scans and blood tests. I have enjoyed this summer and felt better than I have in years! With my body and spirit refreshed, I am ready for the fall and follow up Dr. appointments. BUT I know that God is in control and has blessed me with an awesome summer. Yes, summer is magical for this Black woman!!

    • Wow, what a beautiful testimony. I’m so glad this summer gave you that space to breathe, heal, and just be. There’s something about summertime that really does feel like God’s own reset button, and your words reminded me exactly why I wrote that piece. Wishing you continued strength and joy as you step into this next season. 🤎
